From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Francis is, without question, a consummate professional whose service as a funeral director embodies dignity, grace, and quiet excellence. From the very first moment of contact, he conveys an unspoken reassurance that one is in the most capable of hands during what is invariably a tender and difficult time. His manner is one of rare refinement - never ostentatious, always attentive, and perfectly attuned to the needs of both family and circumstance.
What distinguishes Francis most is his extraordinary sensitivity to detail. Every element, from the careful orchestration of arrangements to the gentle cadence of his words, reflects not only his profound respect for the departed but also his deep compassion for those left behind. He has an instinctive ability to balance solemnity with warmth, creating an atmosphere that is at once reverent and profoundly comforting.
The seamless nature of the proceedings under his direction is testimony to his quiet efficiency and immaculate standards.
In Francis, one finds not merely a director of funerals, but a steward of memory, whose care elevates the farewell into something truly beautiful, honourable, and deeply consoling. Simply put, he is a credit to your organisation.
Tim and his team were amazing from first meet, picking us up in the day, and taking us to the wake. He delivered an amazing funeral and farewell hes words were spot on and really listened to what we said.

Good service efficient
I wholeheartedly recommend Baguley Brothers for their care and attention following my mother's death. I don't live in Nottingham and so all the arrangements were made remotely. I couldn't have received better advice and service.
The funeral iself was run perfectly and the celebrant chosen by Baguley Brothers did a wonderful job.
Thank you so much for making a very difficult day as best as it could be.
